These trends are experiencing exponential development and producing amazing opportunities for financiers. 5G Gadgets Our new 5G (fifth-generation) cordless networks are a topic I have actually been covering for years now.
Despite the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic interfered with supply chains in 2015, an outstanding 250 million 5G-enabled gadgets were still offered. Specifically in the 2nd quarter, there were supply chain interruptions, making delays, and work stoppages. And all of this ultimately led to Apple delaying the release of the 5G-enabled i, Phone 12 by two months.
And that demand is now going to be pressed into 2021. I anticipate that more than 500 million 5G devices will be delivered in 2021.
Stage 3 of 5G When I've discussed 5G in the past, I've explained its 3 different phases. In Phase One, the facilities of these new networks is built out, including all the brand-new towers and fiber-optic circuitry that 5G will need. In Phase 2, 5G devices go on sale.
And in Stage 3, 5G services begin to be used. That's when we start to see applications running on 5G networks. And my second 5G forecast for 2021 is that we will begin Phase Three by this summer.
More and more customers will go out to buy a 5G phone to access these applications. 5G is going to open up a suite of incredible applications: self-driving vehicles, the Internet of Things, robotic surgery, and more.
The financial investment opportunities going forward will be enormous. CRISPR Genetic Editing Stepping away from 5G, the next important technology I foresee in 2021 is CRISPR genetic editing. It's one of the most amazing developments in biotechnology.
